A Secretaria da Educação do Estado de São Paulo (Seduc-SP) has released the list of 500 students from the state education network selected for the first group of intercambistas for the Prontos pro Mundo program in 2026.

The list is accessible on the Seduc-SP website and the program's official site. Each year, this government initiative enables 1,000 students to experience a three-month educational exchange in English-speaking countries such as Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom.

A total of 26,000 students enrolled in the 1st year of High School from the state school network applied for the 500 available spots.

The students eligible for the selection test included those who:

Are enrolled in the 1st year of High School in 2025;

Took the Saresp in 2024 while in 9th grade of Elementary School;

Maintained at least 90% attendance last year; and

Received a level 3 (or higher) certificate from the online English course provided by the Secretaria da Educação.

This year, eligibility for the tests was expanded to include students who were previously enrolled in municipal Elementary Schools and are now attending state schools. After the selection test, approved students proceeded to additional stages, which included evaluating their first-semester grades from this year.

The first journeys under the Prontos pro Mundo program commenced in the first semester of this year. So far, 410 students have traveled to Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom, returning to Brazil and their schools afterward. This includes 40 students who went to Australia in July, 160 to Canada between late August and last Friday (October 5), and 132 to the United Kingdom in the past two weeks, totaling 332 students currently abroad. Additional departures to New Zealand and Australia are planned for late September and early October.

The Prontos pro Mundo exchange program is entirely free for students and their families, covering all expenses and organization through Seduc-SP. Costs for personal documents (passport, visa), accommodation, classes, transfers, and flights are included. While abroad, students also receive a stipend for personal expenses.

Maria Eduarda's dream of living abroad has come true sooner than expected due to the Prontos pro Mundo program. “I initially hoped to attend university outside Brazil, which is why I focus on my studies. I know my achievements come from my own effort,” she shared.

Living with her mother and seeing her father on weekends, Maria Eduarda understands that her mother might have concerns about the exchange. However, she believes her mother will ultimately support her decision. Her father also encourages her passion for learning English.

Maria highlighted the English course offered by the São Paulo Education Department as instrumental in her preparation for the Prontos pro Mundo tests. “It is a comprehensive course that covers all aspects, allowing me to practice reading, speaking, writing, and conversation,” she concluded.

The 26,000 students who participated in the Prontos pro Mundo tests can now check if they made it into the list of the 500 selected on the Secretaria Escolar Digital (SED) platform. Those who wish to appeal their selection can submit a request until 4 PM this Wednesday (October 10). Due to the appeal period, the lists may be subject to change.
